About Mbali Feliti, Counselling Psychologist
I work from an integrative and collaborative approach, drawing on evidence-based modalities such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), alongside trauma-informed and person-centred approaches. I believe that therapy should be tailored to the individual, taking into consideration each person’s unique experiences, relationships, culture, strengths and circumstances. My aim is to provide a warm, compassionate and non-judgmental space where clients feel safe to explore their experiences, develop greater self-awareness, build effective coping strategies and work towards meaningful change.
I view therapy as a collaborative journey rather than something that is simply done “to” a client. Together, we can explore the challenges you are experiencing, understand the patterns that may be keeping you stuck, and identify practical ways of moving forward. I am particularly passionate about supporting adolescents and adults navigating anxiety, mood difficulties, trauma and adjustment, emotional regulation, self-esteem, identity, relationship difficulties, life transitions, burnout and general psychological wellbeing. I also have a particular interest in working with individuals within sport and performance environments, supporting the psychological skills and wellbeing that contribute to optimal functioning.
Mbali Feliti’s Background
My passion for psychology stems from a deep interest in understanding people within the context of their relationships, communities and broader life experiences. I believe that people possess significant strengths and capacity for growth, while also recognising that difficult circumstances, trauma and life transitions can sometimes make it difficult to access those strengths. I value creating therapeutic relationships characterised by trust, compassion and collaboration, where clients can feel heard and supported as they navigate their own journeys. My journey in psychology began at the University of Pretoria, where I completed my Bachelor of Arts degree with distinction, majoring in Psychology and Political Sciences. I subsequently completed my Bachelor of Arts Honours in Psychology at
the University of Johannesburg, where I developed my academic and research interests further. I went on to complete my Master of Arts in Community-Based Counselling Psychology at the University of the Witwatersrand. This training equipped me to work across traditional therapeutic settings while also considering the broader social, cultural and community contexts that influence psychological
wellbeing. My Masters research explored the experiences of Black South African women in rugby, further developing my interests in identity, gender, culture, sport and psychological wellbeing. As part of my professional training, I worked at Helen Joseph Hospital, where I provided individual, group and family interventions to patients from diverse backgrounds. I gained experience working with a range of psychological and psychosocial presentations and developed skills in psychological assessment, psychoeducation, planning, crisis intervention and multidisciplinary collaboration. My hospital experience also included contributing to community mental health initiatives and developing and facilitating wellness and psychoeducational programmes. My experience has extended into private practice, where I work with adolescents, adults, couples and families navigating a range of challenges, including anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, burnout and relationship difficulties. My experience also includes working alongside the South African Rugby Union
(SARU), where I developed and delivered workshops for teams, observed and assisted with performance coaching duties, and developed psychoeducational content for players and staff. This experience, together with my academic research on Black South African women in rugby, has strengthened my passion for supporting psychological wellbeing, resilience and performance within sporting communities.
Beyond individual therapy, I am passionate about group and corporate wellness, psychoeducation and community-based psychological interventions. I believe that psychological support should extend beyond the therapy room and can play an important role in helping individuals, teams and communities build resilience, connection and sustainable wellbeing.
